RANT: 104.1 is now "Praise" 104

104.1 has so far changed formats 3 times this year. At the beginning of the year it was a classical music station. Then it changed formats to become "George 104", which was sort of a mix station. It's catch was that it wouldn't play ads for 104 days. Also, there wasn't a DJ- it was just pre-recorded messages from the guy who played Mr. Peterman on Seinfeld about how great the station was, and that you could call in to leave a message to provide feedback on the station. I think their tagline was "We play whatever we want!"

That whole no advertising for 104 days must have tanked the station, though, because now it is Praise 104! Over the weekend I thought, gee, they sure are playing some interesting songs... but according to their motto, they can playing "whatever we want!", so OK. Then I heard a commercial- thanks for listening to Praise 104. Praise? That's right- 104.1 is now a Gospel station.

Gospel has its place in radio- just not on my pre-set buttons.
I can't believe I am saying this, but I actually miss the George and Mr. Peterman's soothing voice. *sigh* At least with 104's history I know that they will be changing formats soon. Praise can't hang around too long. I give it 3 months tops.

Gospel??? I must have missed that one!

Man, I miss it when it was Z104, way back in the day. The whole shifting of WGMS to 104.1, followed by its eventual disbanding, still breaks my heart. Because that's two great stations that were lost.

You might just be suprised. Radio One is a major force for radio stations in the Black Community. The word is out and me, my freinds and all my family are listening. I think the change will stay! Praise the Lord!

The Washington Metropolitan area is playing catch up with even small towns like Petersburg and Richmond, VA who has had 24 gospel and christian music for over 10-20 years...Ms. Hughes has earned herself a mega star in heaven as far as we are concerned...it is great to reminded how absolutely good God is with His ever presence hand in each of our lives - that's what Praise 104.1 is doing for us...amen and mega blessings to Radio/TVOne - Ron and Audrey Sturdivant - Norwood Enterprises, Silver Spring, MD

I live in Fredericksburg, VA 50 miles outside of Washington,DC. We have been listening to your station when we can get it in clear for about three weeks. As you can imagine all black stations do not come in clear for us down here.I really do enjoy listening to the gospel music. I have my radio in my car pre set to 104.1. I need for you all to keep doing what you are doing. GOD bless.

If you miss George 104, which was only put there to keep the station on the air until they got a buyer, then try Jack 102.7, the Baltimore station puts out a good singal to the DC area.

I LOVE IT BUT WITH ALL THE GOSPEL SONGS OUT HERE OLD AND NEW THERE IS NO REASON FOR THE REPEAT SONGS THREE TO FOUR TIMES IN ONE DAY

I am very glad to have an FM radio station. I used to listen to 1580, but here in Northern Virginia, the signal is very weak in the evenings and early AM. Now I can listen to gospel all day and all night. Hope that the station expands it playlist. It's in need of updating. I'll volunteer to host a show for free just to hear a wider variety. But I'll take the limited variety as long as I can hear it clearly which is way better than the other stations around. I think 104.1 will continue to attract listeners simply because it has a frequency that can be heard without a ton of static.

Hey, does anybody know how I could buy some advertising time on the new Praise 104.1?

My husband has a new bass guitar shop, and his early customers are all gospel players. We would like to serve that market and let the DC gospel community know that some awesome bass gear is available here now!

Okay, so I'm not the role model Chrisitian (everydays an improvement), but I've listened a couple of times and it's sincerely a good mix. There are some gospel songs that you totally miss the message because the choir is constantly yelling or so slow it just bores you on the road, but they play alot of songs that will pick you up early in the morning or on the long evening commute. The message is good and spreading! Praise 104.1 isn't going anywhere

Thank you so much! I live in Winchester Virginia and we have never been able to have 24 hour gospel music. I am so excited and thank God because it is an answer to prayer. I have been asking the Lord for a way to hear gospel music all day especially when I'm in my car. My son, who is 6, enjoys it too!! What a blessing. I love it.

"Let Go" is by DeWayne Woods. My choir sings this very inspirational song.
Praise 104.1 is a regular in my truck so I can listen to them anytime....I don't think this format will be changing anytime soon...bless.

I love to here the gospel from the 70s on. It really touches me. But the person in the morning that gives a thought from the word. Don't play so much with the word. It is after all God's treasure that he gave to us. Thank you

if were not careful we will end up just like cecular radio, stop making it so hard for ministry to be heard if your not a big name gospel artist you won't play em...that's why so many folks stop listening so quick.wlib in NY started off running look at them now! Frankly I think Denise Hill has a terrible attitude and deals in favortism..we the people allow you all to keep your jobs, don't play your selfs. Play some new artists that's what we want we don't care if there sighned to Verity or not..and ho much money there spending on commercials.
